UN Theater Arts to Live Stream 14th International Game Festival – WKTN

ADA – The Ohio Northern University School of Visual and Performing Arts will present its 14th international drama festival titled “Global Climate Action Takes the Stage” from March 26-28 via a live broadcast on freedcenter.com

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on March 26 and 27 with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on March 28.

This year’s festival also incorporates other campus-wide projects and discussions for a more inclusive approach that addresses different aspects of climate change and reactive work to mitigate it.

Joan Robbins, Associate Theater Professor, and James Savage, Assistant Theater Professors, are co-directors of the festival. Robins says this year’s festival focuses on several goals: “creating an artistic response to the climate crisis to include a collection of voices, both local and international; bring together people from different disciplines to listen, learn and share ideas on climate change action; and encourage community building.

The live-streamed film will consist of six five-minute tracks. Familiar upside-down fairy tales, satirical comedies, heart-wrenching dramas, and elegant dance explore the ramifications of human actions on the environment. From Iraq to New Zealand, and even one of our own backyards, this lineup of plays is true to its roots in supporting playwrights around the world. Each piece was shot on location, giving students valuable acting experience for the camera, and edited into a film lasting approximately 45 minutes. A discussion with panelists involved in climate change will follow each broadcast.

Five of the plays were written by international artists for the organization Climate Change Theater Action. The sixth was written by student author Devin Sugerik, a musical theater graduate from Lorain, Ohio, and winner of the campus climate change drama competition.

Tickets cost $ 10 per device and $ 5 for students.
