The Stanley Theater Returns Live Shows: The Arts Club Returns

Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol is on stage at the Stanley Theater from November 18

A New Westminster actor takes center stage in the Arts Club Theater Company’s return to holiday musicals.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prevented the theater company from staging a Christmas musical in 2020. But it returns in style this season with its 2021/22 season opener: Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol, on stage from November 18 to January 2.

The musical, featuring music and lyrics from the country icon, offers a twist on Charles Dickens’ familiar Christmas song.

David Adams of New Westminster stars as Ebenezer Scrooge, now reinvented as the owner of a mining town nestled in the Smoky Mountains.

The musical made its Boston debut in 2019, and this release marks its first at the Arts Club.

“The combination of the honest, genuine and cheerful music of Dolly Parton and the timeless story of Charles Dickens’ Christmas ghosts makes this a wonderful evening of musical theater for the whole family,” director Bobby Garcia said in a statement. Press. “No one does Christmas like Dolly and Dickens! “

Peter Cathie White, executive director of the Arts Club, noted that the recent lifting of capacity restrictions “added more joy to this already joyous holiday celebration.”

“Dolly is truly the great unifier – someone who is universally loved. The show’s theatrical storytelling alongside Dolly’s music makes it the right way to welcome audiences back to The Stanley, after nearly 20 months of darkness there, ”he said.
