Rangayana Presents BV Karanth Theater Music Show | Kannada movie news

In its latest initiative, Rangayana presents BV Karanth Theater Music – an online show of musical compositions from the theater legend. The musical event is presented in episodic form. One of the country’s most prestigious cultural institutions, Rangayana recently released clips of the acclaimed theater production “Kusumabale”. The show was presented in an episodic and dramatized reading format. Based on the epic novel written by Devanuru Mahadeva, the play was originally directed by C Basavalingaiah, and its music was composed by Karanth, and the set design was performed by HK Dwarakanath. These play readings and the new musical show, which was broadcast on Rangayana’s official website and their official YouTube channel, are part of the institution’s special projects that were organized and carried out during the pandemic.

Based in Mysuru, the institution comprises a professional repertory company, a theater training institute, and a documentation and research center. Rangayana provides courses in performing arts, preparation and presentation of plays in Kannada, while it also runs programs with the aim of further nurturing and promoting Kannada theater. It is also well known for its annual theater festival, which takes place in Mysuru. There are also initiatives aimed at introducing young people to theater. They have created a children’s repertoire in collaboration with the International Theater Institute and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.

Founded in 1989 to nurture Kannada staging and plays, the institution is the brainchild of legendary theater personality BV Karanth, who was also the institute’s first director. In 1995, the post was taken over by C Basavalingiah. Prasanna was appointed third director of Rangayana in 2001.
