1919 After 30 days, 37 productions closed and 16 openings prevented, the actors’ equity strike is settled at 3 a.m. The strike, which began Aug. 7, is the longest in American theater history.

1979 A musical comedy revival Peter Pan opens at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater, with Sandy Duncan like Peter and George Rose as Captain Hook. It runs 554 performances, more than three times longer than the original. Future years see more Pan revivals, featuring Cathy Rigby.

1985 Andre Gregoire, Arthur Rubin, Barbara Cook, Georges Hearn, Mandy Patinkin, Lee Remick, Jim Walton, Howard McGillin, daisy prince, Liz Callaway, Betty Comden, Adolf Green, Liliane Montevecchi, Elaine Stritch, Phyllis Newman, carol burnetLicia Albanese and Erie Mills reunite on stage at Avery Fisher Hall to perform a concert version of Stephen Sondheimit is Follies. Originally produced on Broadway in 1971the musical later received full Broadway revivals in 2001 and 2011.

2000 Ralph Fiennes, who played Hamlet on Broadway in 1995, returned to New York in two other Shakespearean roles. The British actor alternates in the lead roles in Almeida Theater Company productions of Richard II and Coriolanus to Brooklyn Academy of Music. jonathan kentwho crossed out Fiennes in Hamlettakes over production management.

2012 After a three-year break, Gerard Alessandrini Forbidden Broadway returns to New York with Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Beating, opening Off-Broadway at the 47th Street Theater. Marking the 30th anniversary of the long-running revue, the show features parodies of Porgy and BessOnce, AvoidedAnything goes, Spider-Man turn off the dark, NewsThe Book of Mormonand good job if you can get itamong others.

2013 The musical adaptation of Lear deBessonet and Todd Almond of william shakespeareit is Stormusing a cast of 200 made up of professional actors and audience members, begins performances at the Delacorte Theater as the first episode of The public theaterof the Public Works initiative. Co-writer Almond, Laura Benanti, Norm Lewis, Carson Elrod, Jeff Hillierand Jacob Ming-Trent star.

2016 A 60th anniversary revival of Lerner and Loewe’s my lovely lady, directed by the original Eliza Doolittle, Julie Andrews, opens at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia. The production stars Olivier Award winner Alex Jennings as Professor Higgins and young Australian star Anna O’Byrne as Eliza.

2016 Mandy Gonzalez, who originated the role of Nina Rosario in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning musical In the heightsjoins the cast of his hit Broadway musical hamilton as Angelica Schuyler.
