1920 Vincenzo Scognamiglio was born in Naples, Italy. Sound unfamiliar to you? To try Vincent Gardenia, who appears on stage in The wall, The Prisoner of Second Avenueand Ballroomas well as many movies.

1924 Passengers on a mysterious voyage aboard turn out to be (spoiler alert) the dead heading for the afterlife in Sutton Palettethe drama Outwardswhich opens a series of 144 performances at the Ritz Theater, with Alfred Lunt, Leslie Howardand Margalo Gillmore.

1935 The Petrified Forest looms at the Broadhurst Theatre. Robert E. SherwoodThe melodrama has a cast that includes Leslie Howard, Peggy Conklinand Humphrey Bogart.

1935 Judith Anderson and Helen Menken star of the opening night of The old girl, Zoe Akinsadaptation of Edith Wharton‘s novel about two sisters in love with the same man during the Civil War. He won the Pulitzer Prize for theater and staged 305 performances at the Empire Theatre.

1937 Lotte Lenya made its New York debut at the Manhattan Opera House. She plays Miriam in Francois Werfelit is The eternal roadto music by her husband, Kurt Well.

1943 Cole Portermusical of soldiers and dancers in times of war something for the boys stars Ethel Triton and betty garrett. It organizes 422 performances at the Alvin Theater. Songs include “Hey, Good Looking” and “By the Mississinewa”. It is then turned into a film for Carmen Miranda.

1958 Tennessee WilliamsGarden District consists of two acts: Suddenly last summer and something unsaid. They are produced Off-Broadway at the York Theater for a limited time. The duo is revived, with mixed reviews, at Circle in the Square in 1995.

1975 John Cullum musical comedy stars Shenandoah, based on the film of the same name. Opening at the Alvin Theatre, it holds 1,050 performances.

1985 Yul Brynner returns to Broadway for the final time in a revival of The king and me at the Broadway Theatre. He plays opposite Marie-Beth Peil. Brynner receives an honorary Tony Award later that same year, celebrating his 4,525 performances in Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein IIThe 1951 classic.

2019 Abby Rosebrock Blueridge made its world premiere with an opening at the Atlantic Theater Company. Tony’s contestant Marin Ireland plays a high school teacher who, after lambasting her boss, is sentenced to a church-sponsored halfway house. The cast also includes Kristolyn Lloyd, Kyle Beltran, Peter Mark Kendall, Nicole Lewis and Chris Stack.
