1859 Sholem Yakov Rabinowitz was born in Ukraine. Under the pseudonym Sholem Aleichem, he wrote numerous stories in Yiddish, several of which were adapted for the stage, notably violin on the roof.

1915 Seeley Flower, Nora Bayes, and Joe jackson are Housekeeper in America. Music for the war-focused show is provided by Sigmund romberg and Harry carroll.

1930 Richard rodgers and Lorenz Hart collaborate with the actor Ed wynn on a musical comedy vehicle called Simple simon, which organizes 135 performances at the Ziegfeld Theater. The sheet music includes “Ten Cents a Dance”.

1948 Mr. Roberts, Thomas heggenportrait of life aboard a WWII military ship, opens a race of 1,157 performances, featuring Henri fonda and David Wayne. He won the Tony Award for best play in 1948.

1954 Audrey hepburn stars with husband Mel Ferrer in the medieval novel Undine, directed by Alfred Lunt. He organizes 157 performances at the 46th Street Theater.

1964 It is Any wednesday or one of the 982 days the comedy takes place at the Music Box Theater. Don Porter stars as a pompous businessman balancing a wife and a mistress. Sandy Denis, Rosemary Murphy, and Gene Hackman are in the cast.

1982 Ed graczyk‘s Come back to 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean opens at the Martin Beck Theater. Robert altman rule the stars Sandy Denis, Expensive, Karen Black, Kathy bates, Marta Heflin, and Sudie Bond for the production, which performs 52 performances.

1999 Mineola binoculars opens to Roundabout theater company‘s Off-Broadway Laura Pels Theater. Paula Vogel, who won the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for How i learned to drive, wrote the play that features Swoosie Kurtz like identical twins Myrna and Myra. Joe mantello steps.

2003 Off-broadway Playwrights Horizons christens its new $ 27 million West 42nd Street main stage with the first glimpse of My life with Albertine, Ricky Ian Gordon and Richard Nelson’s musical adaptation of Proust’s work Remembrance of things past.
