1859 Sholem Yakov Rabinowitz was born in Ukraine. Under the pseudonym of Sholem Aleichem, he wrote many stories in Yiddish, several of which were adapted for the stage, notably as fiddler on the roof.

2016 Following an acclaimed Off-Broadway tour the previous fall, Stephen Karam’s family drama Humans opens on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre. The production ran for 365 performances and won four Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Featured Actor in a Play (Reed Birney), and Best Featured Actress in a Play (Jayne Houdyshell). A film adaptation of the play, directed by the playwright, will premiere in 2021.

2020 by Alice Birch Anatomy of a Suicide had its American premiere at the Atlantic Theater Company. The Susan Smith Blackburn Award-winning play explores the relationships between three generations of mothers and daughters as their lives unfold simultaneously on stage.
