1888 Comedian DeWolf Hopper begins his dramatic recitation of the poem Bat casey at the Wallack Theater. This becomes a cornerstone of his act for the next 40 years.

1922 Curfew opens on Broadway. The play written by Paul Dickey and Mann Page marked Page’s Broadway debut.

1928 Opening night for one of the classic comedy classics in Broadway history. The first page, Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthurthe story of hardened reporters covering the story of a lifetime, inclines at Times Square Theater, with Osgood Perkins and Lee tracy.

1990 The Off-Off-Broadway gospel musical Smoke on the mountain transfers to Lamb’s Theater Off-Broadway. The comedy, conceived and directed by Alan Bailey and written by Connie ray, contains religious music by various composers. The stars of the show Kevin chamberlin, who goes on to appear in Broadway shows such as Dirty blonde, Seussical, and The Addams Family.

1996 When pigs fly opens Off-Broadway, but Howard Crabtree (who designed the magazine) doesn’t see it because he died of complications from AIDS less than two months earlier. The musical review with crazy costumes, co-designed by Mark Waldrop with the music of Dick gallagher, plays 334 performances at the Douglas Fairbanks Theater on Off-Broadway.

1998 A new production of Ernest thompson‘s On the golden pond opens at the Theater at the Center in Indiana. Starring the elderly couple trying to come to terms with their children and their lives, are Nanette Fabray and Art Kassul. Production runs until September 6.

2003 Broadway, Off-Broadway, and many regional shows are canceled when a power outage deprives most of the Northeastern United States of electricity.

2005 The life story of John lennon comes to Broadway in a biographical review, Lennon, realized by Don Scardino, with Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, as a consultant. The production, in which several actors play the main character, confuses some critics and audiences alike, leading to a brief five-week airing at the Broadhurst Theater. The cast includes Will Chase, Chuck Cooper, Mandy Gonzalez, Terrence Mann and Julia Murney.

2012 Harrison, TX: Three pieces of Horton foote, the late playwright Foote’s three-piece collection of daily intimate encounters in small American towns, opens Off-Broadway as part of Primary stages‘season at 59E59. Composed of short plays Blind date, The Penguin, and Midnight caller, the cast includes Hallie foote, Jayne Houdyshell, Devon abner, and Jeremy Bobb.
