Assistant Professor, Theater Arts
Tenure-track Assistant Professor for 9 months in the Department of Theater Arts starting in August 2022. This new faculty member will specialize in Black performance and creative practice. MFA or Ph.D. in theater or a related field. A demonstrated record of successful teaching. A record of successful directing/drama achievements. Applicants must show the potential for continued creative or scientific work. The successful candidate will bring experience in directing and other forms of theatrical creation. Additional specialization in community outreach and training of artist teachers is preferred. Applicants with a demonstrated record of successful teaching at the college level and whose work demonstrates a commitment to issues of social justice and diversity, equity and inclusion in theater are especially encouraged to apply. Professors are assigned a teaching workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year. Beginning in the second year, the workload corresponds to the standard teaching workload of seven (7) course credits per academic year. Directing a main production for the department counts as teaching a course. In addition to the new courses the candidate will develop, a successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach the existing African American Theater course and should be able to teach some of the following existing undergraduate and graduate courses: Community Outreach in Theatre, Towson Theater Infusion (field experience for teaching artists), Performance and Society, Graduation Project Supervision, Directing 1, Script Analysis. Regular staging of the main season of the theater arts department is required. An active and sustained program of production and dissemination of creative activities/grants is required. Student counseling and service to the department, college, university, and community/profession are also expected.
